According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Statistical Analysis Center, between 2016 and 2019, there was an average of 1038 bus crashes each year. There was a significant drop in 2020, but it's likely a result of the COVID pandemic which had many school on a virtual only schedule. 81% of those were reported as property damage only, while the remaining 19% resulted in personal injury and in rare occasions even death. One injury or death is too many! Over the past several months, the SafeAssist development team has been working along side a local school district to evaluate potential solutions that would give bus drivers yet another tool to help them identify potential safety hazards or risks before they become a statistic. The R&D phase of this project evaluated several solutions, but in the end narrowed the viable options down to a system that provides a high definition, 360 degree camera view with an added HD 4 angle video recording solution. This solution is current installed and being tested under a variety of conditions and circumstances. Our team at SafeAssist believes that a human being with the delicate task of transporting our children to and from school, should be equipped with not 1, not 2, not 3, but as many safety features as possible to ensure every child that steps through those bus doors makes it home to see their family. As we continue to navigate this process, we intend to begin contract talks for full integration with local districts. Stay tuned for photos, videos, and new information.
